Will Jason McCourty Join the Patriots?

Hey everyone, welcome back to my sports and fitness blog. Many of you probably saw the news the other say of the National Football League team the Tennessee Titans releasing their longest tenured player in Jason McCourty. McCourty was due to earn a $7 million base salary, and although both sides lobbied for a return in the Periwinkle Blue, the Titans ended up releasing the cornerback. This of course just opens up lots of windows for McCourty, who might be eyeing a trip to New England for the chance to play with his twin Devin in the Patriots secondary. With the amount of time that teams are in the nickel or dime package in today’s NFL, no team can ever have enough corners.

Jason McCourty Titans

Could This Happen?

McCourty would be looking to join star cornerbacks Stephon Gilmore and Malcolm Butler; although it is highly unlikely that New England would pay both Butler and McCourty. They could however have a secondary consisting of Gilmore and McCourty on either side, with Patrick Chung and Devin McCourty in the back. This could look enticing to Jason for more reasons that just having his brother with him. While Jason McCourty is 29 and played in the NFL for eight years; he has never made it to the playoffs. New England is the closest thing to a sure shot to make the playoffs in the NFL at the moment. This might be why so many star players seem to want to go there. Where do you think Jason McCourty will end up? I hope he goes somewhere no the Patriots, because the Patriots don’t need anymore help in the secondary. Let me know you thoughts below, and have a great day everyone.

What to Expect at Your First Martial Arts Class

Hi everyone, welcome back to my sports and fitness blog, Renshinkan. As I’ve previously mentioned I love Martial arts, and have personally tried out many different classes and martial art styles.  And whilst each class is different, there are many similarities between the classes and what to expect for your first lesson.

The first step to trying out a martial arts class is to decide which martial arts style you are most interested in. Each style has different strengths and weaknesses, and will teach you something different.  For example, Jiu Jitsu is great for self defense, whilst Kung fu is great for coordination and gaining muscles.  I’ve discussed Jiu Jitsu in detail in my previous blog post here; http://renshinkan.co.uk/brazilian-jiu-jitsu/.

What You Will be Wearing

Each martial arts class will come with different requirements and slightly different items to wear. However, for the most part as standard you should expect to purchase a full uniform.  This will be made up of trousers, a jacket, often referred to as a Gi, and a belt.  It can be a good idea to purchase some spare trousers, particularly if you want to practice more often.  I’ve purchased some great cheap black martial arts trousers for the best price at https://www.easyprices.com/fashion/black-martial-arts-pants-sale. As most martial arts are inside you will likely practice barefoot, however some people like wearing trainers in which case you can purchase taekwondo shoes.

What to Wear Under Your Martial Arts Gi

Sometimes Gis and martial arts uniforms can be made up of thin materials. When this is the case they can often appear see through during harder techniques. If you practice outside or in large open rooms it can also get quite cold. I like to wear cycling shorts, or yoga shorts underneath my gi.  I prefer compression gear as it stays dry during the workout and training, as well as helping to reduce muscle tiredness.  There are some great bargains online for cheap price at https://www.easyprices.com/fashion/yoga-shorts-price. If you’re a woman you might also want to invest in a high quality sports bra, as the sport can be fairly strenuous.

How to Behave

One of the biggest things in martial arts is respect. It is one of the most important things to remember, and a must for your first few lessons. Not only do you need to be respectful of your sensei but you should also be respectful of everyone else in your class. From bowing, to fist bumping and pats on the back, there are plenty of ways to show your respect. It is also completely normal for you to be unsure on the processes, and to have to get used to the class structure and drills, however if you’ve taken any other martial arts classes you might be used to it. If you want to practice at home it can also be a good idea to purchase your own training equipment.  I bought a great kick bag from www.easyprices.com.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my blog, and I hope this post has helped anyone with what to expect in their first martial arts class.  Please check out my latest blog post on the Las Vegas Golden Knights.

Las Vegas Golden Knights

Hey sports fans, how is everyone doing today? I come from Canada originally so I am a massive NHL fan, which is why I was so surprised to hear that there is now a 31st team in the National Hockey League, the Vegas Golden Knights. The Golden Knights are set to begin league play in the 2017-2018 season and just the other day signed their first ever player Reid Duke from the Brandon Wheat Kings in Manitoba, Canada.

THe NHL has been interested in a Las Vegas franchise since the early 90’s when the Los Angeles Kings played the New York Rangers for a preseason exhibition game. This continued interest allowed Vegas officials to get a minor league hockey team in the Las Vegas Thunder from 1993 until 1999 when their lease was not renewed for their arena. The NHL has stayed in Vegas in some capacity since 1997, as every year other than lockouts there has been a pre-season competition known as Frozen Fury between the LA Kings and the Colorado Avalanche.

The name was chosen originally as a tribute to the Army Black Knights, owner Bill Foleys alma mater. This name was not permitted in the end, as West Point and the United States government would have had to sign off on the name. The current name, Vegas Golden Knights is also facing scrutiny from the military as it has been using the name Golden Knights for a parachuting team since 1959. Whether the Golden Knights will be the Golden Knights later this year is still debated, but they will be playing in Las Vegas.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Hey readers, how are you all doing today? I am doing great thanks for asking, I just got back from one of my first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes and I feel happier than a pig in mud. I already have a Jiu Jitsu black belt so trying out the Brazilian style (BJJ as it is referred professionally) and I just love it. There is such a focus on grappling and ground fighting, BJJ is a discipline where an old man could beat a heavyweight champion with the right technique.

Dangers

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is considered one of the safest forms of martial arts there is, although with any contact sports there are dangers. Proper technique does allow a fighter the ability to snap a joint with minimal effort and in a small amount of time. Because of this, the majority of injuries that do occur are joint injuries such as dislocations and separations. Head injuries are quite rare but do happen, most notably cauliflower ear which is permanent deformity in the cartridge of a person’s ears.

The Uniform

The uniform worn in BJJ is very similar to the judogi, but with tighter cuffs for the pants and the jacket. This is intended to give a performer a closer fit and to allow less material to grab. A traditional requirement for being promoted in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is that the practitioner must wear their Jiu Jitsu Gi during training although there have been time where masters have awarded a belt to people who trained in the ever growing no gi style of fighting.

Have any of you tried of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu? It is an amazing discipline to get into and you get 100% back of what you put in. I will continue my training for as long as I can and if this is something you are interested in, look up your local dojo! I am going to have an ice bath, have a great day!

Welcome

Hello and welcome everyone to my humble sports and fitness blog. I am your host/writer Ren! I started my first sports blog 5 years ago and primarily talked about things happening in the martial arts world but after I received my black belt in jujitsu I decided to venture out more into the world of sports. I like to challenge myself, so I try to constantly set new goals that I have to conquer. Last year I did a climb of Mount Kilimanjaro and this year I am training for a double Ironman. Needless to say, I am also very big into health and fitness. I have made my own diet plans since I was a teenager and judging my by success in all the endeavors I have attempted it seems to be working

Come back here around the same time next week and I will hopefully have a fresh post for you, possibly some news or maybe a protein shake recipe. Like I said already, I have experience doing these blogs so I think I will be able to entertain you all. Thanks again for giving us a look, and I hope to see you back soon.
